Falling Alder and an Elk Antler

For our outdoor shiitake mushroom attempt, I cut down a few of the smallest Alders I could find in the back field. The 'bolts' (four foot lengths of the tree) on which the mushrooms grow should be between four and five inches in diameter. Most of our Red Alder is too large to be easily useful for log growing. In fact many of our mature Alder have side branches that are too big to be useful!

I was watching the camera feeed when some elk were out in the front field and happened to capture a bull shaking off an antler, shown in the video below. I was subsequently able to recover the antler from the field later that day after the elk had moved on. Unfortunately, we only found the one. Also, unfortunately, the elk have been stripping leaves from the tea plants in the truffle trees through which they meander quite often on their way in or out of the property. I really need to repair/replace that fence!
